the globe of goodwill

concept created for the Benefit Society of Chlidren with Disabilities’ Summer Camp.

The aim of the project is to raise awareness, funds and better the lives of children and young people with disabilities.

 

Award

Each edition of the Globe (Kærleikskúlan) is premiered at the Reykjavík Art Museum where the first Globe of the year is awarded to those whose work has challenged traditional values or views, inspired others to think differently and improve the lives of fellow-citizens and society as a whole. Artists

Iceland’s leading artists, have been at the center of this project, creating unique pieces and donating their work. Artists who have participated so far are: Erró (2003), Ólafur Elíasson (2004), Rúrí (2005), Gabríela Friðriksdóttir (2006), Eggert Pétursson (2007), The Icelandic Love Corporation (2008), Hreinn Friðfinnsson (2009), Katrín Sigurðardóttir (2010), Yoko Ono (2011), Hrafnhildur Arnardottir (2012), Ragnar Kjartansson (2013) and Davíð Örn Halldórsson (2014), Ragna Róbertsdóttir (2015), Sigurður Árni Sigurðsson (2016), Egill Sæbjörnsson (2017).

 

Blessed

The Globe of Goodwill has been blessed by the Bishop of Iceland and Pope Francis.

 

Proceeds

All proceeds go to Reykjadalur, a summer camp for children and youngsters with disabilities, situated 30 km from the center of Reykjavík. More than 200 children from all over Iceland spend time in Reykjadalur every year. Apart from the week long summer sessions of fun, friendship and adventure – the camp offers weekends of fun in the fall and spring.

 

Faroe Islands

The Dugni Organization (NPO) joined the project in 2008 through a contract with the Benefit Society and published their first Globe of Goodwill in the Faroe Islands in 2009. All proceeds of sales go to its work for people with disabilities. The leading Faroese artists that have donated their work so far are: Tróndur Patursson (2009), Sigrun Gunnarsdóttir (2010), Hansina Iversen (2011), Zacharias Heinesen (2012), Edward Fuglø (2013), Astrid Andreassen (2014), Astri Luihn (2015), Eyðun av Reyni (2016) og Guðrið Poulsen (2017).
