A book about the life of Ragnheiður Jóhannesdóttir, Eva's paternal grandmother.

 

Ragnheiður was born in Iceland at the beginning of the 19th century. She was one of 17 sisters and brothers. Her father, Jóhannes, was a priest in the west part of Iceland and the family lived at a rectory called Kvennabrekka. When Ragnheiður was six years old the family moved to Reykjavík were Jóhannes started working on an Icelandic dictionary. There were many mouths to feed and the family was very poor. Ragnheiður was only seven years old when she started scrubbing floors to bring home some money. 

 

Ragnheiður was a very independent young lady and she was determined to follow her dreams. At the age of 20 she went to Germany to study and started her own company when she returned to Iceland. At the age of 26 Ragnheiður married Oddur V. G. Ólafsson, a medical doctor and later a parlamentarian ...

 

The book was published by Kvennabrekka Forlag in 2012. A limited number of books was published.
The book is available at the National and University Library of Iceland and at the Women's History Archives.
